About the Book

What does it mean to have morals and values when faced with evil?

Father Franklin Hayes has been a priest for twenty years. Once a drug addict, he participated in underground fighting to keep his drug habit going. Through the help of a priest and faith, Hayes left his troubled past behind him and joined the priesthood. Now he will be tested against similar evil forces when his sister goes missing and forced to return to the city he once swore off. Will the demons of his past get the best of him, or can he keep his faith and humanity intact with help from a senior police officer, a fellow priest, and a prostitute as he goes through a labyrinth of obstacles to find his only living relative?

“Absolution is a sibling-rescue story, an epic quest, and a page-turner. I couldn’t put down this crime thriller until the final, stunning scene. Patrick Simpson has created a tour de force with this novel.” — Melanie Faith, author of Does It Look Like Her?

“A complex examination of faith, personal desire, and obligation.” — Brandon Barrows, author of And Of Course, There Was The Girl

“There’s a touch of dystopia in Patrick Simpson’s Absolution. A nameless city mostly seen in darkness, illegal boxing matches in derelict warehouses, cops for sale, two gangsters—warlords—vying for power. In walks Father Franklin Hayes searching for his missing sister. Is his faith a strong enough armor or will it fall to pieces? When the rosary fails to provide a lifeline, he will need to rely on his fists. There is danger there, a taste of damnation. This unusual novel juxtaposes the rawness of the ring with a deep dive into morality and salvation, both elusive. An intriguing read.” — M.E. Proctor, author of Love You Till Tuesday
